How an Inside-Country Extension Works

Instead of exiting and re-entering, a new permit is issued while you stay where you are. Once approved, your new stay of 60 days follows on from your current one, so there is no gap in your legal status as long as you applied in time.

You remain free to travel around all seven emirates during the process, but do not leave the UAE while the extension is being processed — exiting usually cancels the application.

Who Can Apply

  • Visitors currently in the UAE on a tourist or visit visa that can be extended.
  • Visa-free nationals who entered on an entry permit and want to stay longer than it allows.
  • Travellers whose current stay has not yet expired.
  • Applicants with no immigration case, absconding report or outstanding fine.

Transit visas generally cannot be extended. Whether a particular visa can be extended also depends on its type and your nationality — choose your passport in the search above and the extension options open to you are listed.

Documents Required

  • Passport bio page — colour scan with sufficient remaining validity.
  • Current visa or entry stamp — a copy of the visa you entered on, or the entry stamp/permit page for visa-free entry.
  • Photograph — recent, colour, plain white background.
  • UAE contact details — your current address in the UAE and a reachable phone number.

How to Apply for the 60 Days Inside Country Visa Extension

  1. Choose your passport and travel country. Use the search at the top of this page — pick the nationality on your passport and the country you are travelling from.
  2. Pick the 60 Days Inside Country Visa Extension. The next page lists only the visas your passport can actually apply for, with the live price and processing time for each.
  3. Fill in one online form. Add every traveller to the same application — each person, including children, needs their own visa.
  4. Upload your documents. A colour passport scan and a photo are enough for most applicants; we tell you straight away if anything else is needed.
  5. Pay securely. You see the sponsored visa fee and service fee before you pay by card.
  6. Receive your e-visa by email. Track progress with your application ID on the visa status page, then check every detail on the approved visa against your passport.

Your nationality decides which Dubai visas are available to you, so we always start from your passport rather than sending everyone to the same form.

When to Apply

Apply as early as you know you will need more time, and at least several working days before your current stay ends. Processing takes 2–3 days, and an application made after your stay has expired cannot simply be backdated.

Avoid this mistakeYour last permitted day is counted from your entry stamp. Check it on your e-visa or passport rather than estimating it.

Do Not Overstay

Your 60 days stay ends on a fixed date. Staying in the UAE beyond it without a valid extension is an overstay: UAE immigration charges a fine for every extra day, and a serious overstay can lead to an entry ban or make future visa applications harder.

Fine amounts and any grace period are set by UAE immigration and can change, so do not rely on them as extra time. Submitting your extension before the last day of your current stay is what protects you.

TipNote your last permitted day as soon as you land — it is counted from your entry stamp, not from the day the visa was issued.

After Your Extension Is Approved

  • Check that your name, passport number and new dates are correct.
  • Save the approval with your passport documents — you may be asked for it on departure.
  • Note your new last permitted day and plan your flight home before it.
